Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 18, 2026
CiteOps.ai is built on a privacy-first principle: all page analysis runs entirely in your browser. No page content or analysis data is ever sent to our servers without your explicit action.
1. Overview
CiteOps.ai ("we," "our," or "us") operates the CiteOps.ai Chrome Extension and website at citeops.ai. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
The following data is never collected or transmitted to our servers:
- The content of web pages you analyze
- Your browsing history or activity
- Analysis results from any page you scan
- Personally identifiable information from analyzed pages
- Usage telemetry or behavior tracking from the extension
3. How Page Analysis Works
When you click the CiteOps.ai extension icon on any webpage, the analysis runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The extension reads the page's DOM (HTML structure), meta tags, schema markup, and other on-page signals to calculate your AI Citability Score.
This analysis is local-only:
- No page content is sent to our servers
- Results are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage APIs (
chrome.storage.local) - Analysis works offline and without any network requests
4. Data Stored Locally
The extension stores the following data locally in your browser (never on our servers):
- Analysis results — Score history for pages you have scanned, kept locally for trend tracking
- Your preferences — Theme choice (dark/light), default view, and other UI settings
- Competitor URLs — URLs you manually add for competitor tracking (Pro/Team feature)
- Team member emails — Emails you add for team invitations (Team feature, not synced to our servers)
- White-label settings — Agency name and branding configuration (Team feature)
All locally stored data can be cleared at any time through Chrome's extension storage settings.
5. Dashboard Sync (Optional, Opt-In)
If you create a CiteOps.ai account and choose to sync your data to the dashboard, you explicitly control what is saved:
- You must actively click "Save to Dashboard" to sync a scan result
- Saved scans are stored securely in our database, associated with your account
- You can delete synced scans from your dashboard at any time
- We do not automatically sync or upload any data in the background
6. AI-Powered Suggestions (Pro Feature)
Pro and Team users can generate AI-powered meta tag improvements and content suggestions. When you click "Generate AI Suggestion," the relevant page metadata (title, description, and basic content signals — not the full page content) is sent to an AI API (OpenAI or Anthropic) to generate suggestions.
This is always:
- Triggered by an explicit user action (button click) — never automatic
- Limited to metadata, not full page content
- Disclosed clearly in the UI before the request is made
7. Account Information
If you create a CiteOps.ai account, we collect:
- Email address (for authentication and communication)
- Password (stored as a secure hash — we never store plain-text passwords)
- Account tier and subscription status (Free/Pro/Team)
- Billing information processed via Stripe (we do not store payment card numbers)
8. Cookies and Tracking
The CiteOps.ai website uses minimal cookies for:
- Session authentication (keeping you logged in to your dashboard)
- Basic analytics via privacy-respecting analytics (no cross-site tracking)
The Chrome Extension does not use any cookies or tracking pixels.
9. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Stripe — Payment processing for Pro/Team subscriptions. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — Database and authentication infrastructure for dashboard accounts.
- OpenAI / Anthropic — AI suggestion generation for Pro/Team users (only when explicitly triggered).
10. Permissions Requested by the Extension
The CiteOps.ai Chrome Extension requests the following permissions:
- activeTab — To analyze the page you are currently viewing, only when you click the extension icon
- scripting — To inject analysis scripts into the active tab for DOM analysis
- storage — To save your preferences and scan history locally in your browser
- contextMenus — To add a right-click menu option to quickly analyze any page
We do not request permissions to read all browsing history, access other tabs, or communicate with external servers during analysis.
11. Data Retention
- Local extension data — Stored in your browser indefinitely until you uninstall the extension or clear Chrome's storage
- Dashboard data — Retained while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.
- Billing records — Retained as required by law (typically 7 years)
12. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Object to processing of your data
- Data portability (export your scan history)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].
13. Children's Privacy
CiteOps.ai is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of significant changes via email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
